What can you expect when a 101-year-old Katong institution opens its doors outside its original neighbourhood for the first time?

Chin Mee Chin Confectionery is set to open its second outlet at NEX on 8 August 2026, bringing its well-loved kaya toast, traditional kopi, and freshly baked buns to Serangoon. This marks the heritage bakery’s first move outside Katong since it started in 1925.

The Chin Mee Chin NEX menu keeps classic favourites and adds new pastries, hearty meals, sandwiches, and modern drinks. This means you can stop by not just for a quick Singapore breakfast, but also for lunch, a snack, or a relaxed family meal.

Here are eight dishes and drinks worth trying.

1. Kaya Toast Set, $6.50

Start your visit with the Kaya Toast Set. It’s still the highlight of the Chin Mee Chin menu and stands out as one of Singapore’s most recognisable kaya toasts.

The set comes with freshly toasted buns, two soft-boiled eggs, and a hot drink. The kaya is still made with the family’s traditional recipe and natural ingredients.

The toast is crisp on the outside and soft inside. Spread kaya and butter, dip it into the eggs, and enjoy it with kopi. This familiar routine is what makes it special.

You can also choose the Peanut Butter Toast or Butter Sugar Toast Sets, both priced at $6.50.

2. Kaya Custard Choux au Craquelin, $3

The classic kaya cream puff has been updated with a modern twist at Chin Mee Chin NEX.

The Kaya Custard Choux au Craquelin has a crisp shell filled with the bakery’s homemade kaya custard. It keeps the classic Chin Mee Chin flavour but offers it in a lighter, more modern pastry.

At $3 each, it’s easy to add one to your breakfast or coffee. A box of four costs $10, making it great for sharing or taking home.

3. Dark Chocolate Choux au Craquelin, $3

If you prefer something different, the Dark Chocolate Choux au Craquelin is a richer option with the same crisp pastry shell.

Try one kaya custard and one dark chocolate choux for a nice balance. The kaya is fragrant and nostalgic, while the chocolate offers a deeper cocoa taste.

These new choux pastries will probably be some of the most photographed treats at NEX, especially if you want something familiar yet unique.

4. Curry Potato Pie, $3.80

The Curry Potato Pie is a new savoury pastry at the NEX outlet.

It’s a good choice if you want something warm and filling without having a full meal. At $3.80, it’s also a reasonable snack for a shopping centre.

You can also try Chicken Pie or Rendang Pie for $3.80 each, or the Black Pepper Beef Pie for $4.80. Danish pastries like Ham and Cheese, Mushroom, and Garlic Scallion are $3.60 each.

5. Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken Cutlet, $10.80

If you’re there for lunch, try the Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken Cutlet.

This meal is more filling than the usual buns and toast. It’s a familiar local favourite, now served with the convenience of NEX. You can also choose grilled chicken cutlet for the same price.

Other main dishes include Curry Chicken Rice for $9.80 and Banana Leaf Grilled Otah for $1.80. You can add a hot drink to your meal for $1 more.

6. Grilled Kaffir Lime Chicken Sandwich, $8.80

The Grilled Kaffir Lime Chicken Sandwich offers a refreshing twist on the usual café sandwich.

Kaffir lime adds a bright citrus flavour to the chicken, making this sandwich a lighter option for lunch or a snack. It costs $8.80, and you can add a hot drink for $1 more.

Other sandwich choices are Egg Mayo with Caramelised Onion, Sambal Tuna, and Smashed Fried Chicken with Sambal.

7. Hae Bee Hiam Bun, $2.80

Chin Mee Chin’s freshly baked buns are still a key part of its confectionery heritage.

The Hae Bee Hiam Bun is savoury and mildly spicy, and easy on the wallet. You can also try the Luncheon Meat Bun or Otah Bun, both at $2.80 each.

These buns are perfect for a quick takeaway, especially if you want something more exciting than plain bread but don’t have time for a full meal.

8. Kaya Cloud Kopi, $5.50

Coffee is still at the heart of the Chin Mee Chin experience, but the NEX drinks menu offers more than just traditional kopi and teh.

The Kaya Cloud Kopi blends local coffee with a creamy kaya-inspired topping. It looks fancier than regular kopitiam coffee but keeps the familiar flavours tied to the brand’s heritage.

The Salted Gula Melaka Cloud Kopi is also $5.50. Other special drinks include Calamansi Yakult, Roselle Cucumber, and Pandan Tea.

A Heritage Bakery in a New Neighbourhood

The new outlet is inspired by Chin Mee Chin’s original Katong shophouse. Pastel colours, curved shapes, custom furnishings, and familiar decorations help keep its nostalgic feel in the middle of a busy mall.

Open bakery displays and a visible coffee counter put food preparation at the heart of the space. Seating is limited to 26, including four booths, so you might have to wait during busy times.

Chin Mee Chin NEX is located at 23 Serangoon Central, #B2-60/61, NEX, Singapore 556083. It opens daily from 8am to 9.30pm, with last orders at 9pm.

Should you visit Chin Mee Chin NEX?

Chin Mee Chin NEX isn’t meant to replace the original Katong outlet. Instead, it brings the brand’s long-standing Singapore breakfast culture to a new neighbourhood and offers more choices all day.

If it’s your first time, try the Kaya Toast Set. Add a Kaya Custard Choux to see how the brand is changing, or go for nasi lemak and a cloud kopi if you want something more filling.

The setting may be different, but the simple pleasure is unchanged: enjoying good toast, warm bakes, and coffee together at the table.
