Nothing unites Singaporeans quite like food. So, this National Day season, Subway Singapore is launching its first-ever local flavour pairing: Rendang Sub and Pandan Cookie. And that’s not all! The first 10,000 of these subs bought will be matched by the sandwich giant and distributed to staff and volunteers at vaccination centres, testing centres, and the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID).

In light of newly announced no dine-in measures, Subway will bring the subs to them. This is Subway’s first large-scale community impact initiative served toward recognising the dedication and hard work of those involved in ensuring Singaporeans are vaccinated, tested, and kept safe from this raging pandemic.

Local Rendang Indulgence and Subway Freshness Unite

Rendang, an aromatic dish sure to make your palate dance, has existed since the 15th century. Making its way through Indonesia and the Malayan Archipelago, it has also found a home in the hearts of Singaporeans. This familiar flavour will now be available to Singaporeans via the Rendang Sub that comes in both chicken and beef.

Get hit with a medley of flavours from the various ingredients in the Rendang Sub, which include chilli, onion, turmeric, ginger, garlic, desiccated coconut, tamarind, lemongrass, and a unique spice and herb mixture. All this renders the meat soft and juicy and gives the Rendang Sub an irresistible, robust, and aromatic taste.

While you can choose your own fresh vegetables, Subway recommends pairing the rendang meat with Old English Cheddar Cheese, Mixed Greens, Tomatoes, Cucumber, Mixed Pepper, and Onions for an, especially flavourful explosion. The naturally sweetened and chewy Pandan cookie is best paired with the Rendang Sub,  elevating the decadent and aromatic experience all-round.

Both of these menu items will be available from 21 July 2021 to 28 September 2021 across all Subway restaurants islandwide and on delivery platforms GrabFood, FoodPanda, and Deliveroo. Prices for the new additions are listed below:

  • Chicken Rendang sub starts from $7.30 for a 6-inch and $12.30 for a footlong
  • Beef Rendang sub starts from $7.90 for a 6-inch and $12.90 for a footlong
  • Pandan cookie starts from $1.40

“The Rendang Sub and Pandan Cookie took us a year and a half to master, and they’ll be the first of many localised options done in response to customers’ growing demand for locally curated flavours. From internal tastings and restaurant taste tests, the Rendang sub and Pandan cookie underwent in-depth and intensive research to deliver the right and familiar flavour to our guests. We hope that Singaporeans will enjoy this as they celebrate Singapore’s 56th birthday and revel in the collective spirit of togetherness”, said Samad Mohd Shariff, Country Director, Subway, South East Asia.

A Thank You to Everyone Fighting Against COVID-19

The fast-food chain is also celebrating the Singapore spirit in another way: for every Rendang Sub purchased, Subway will match that to distribute up to 10,000 subs to staff and volunteers across vaccination and testing centres islandwide, as well as to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID). These include staff and volunteers across all 36 vaccination centres and 26 testing centres islandwide run by Fullerton Health, Raffles Medical Group, Parkway Shenton, Thomson Medical, and Healthway Medical. The distribution will take place between 3 Aug and 17 Aug 2021.

Samad Mohd Shariff, Country Director, Subway, South East Asia added, “It only felt right that with the launch of Subway’s first local offering, we support and share our gratitude for those working tirelessly to keep our country safe during the pandemic. They are the pillars of the government’s efforts to test and vaccinate everyone so that we can emerge stronger together.”

Win $100 Subway Singapore Vouchers

Singaporeans can also stand a chance to win $100 Subway vouchers by:

  • Sharing Subway’s “Rendang Nation Anthem” video on your public Facebook profile
  • Adding a creative caption (best captions will be shortlisted to win)
  • Tag 3 other friends to participate
  • Like and follow Subway’s Facebook page

This anthem features Singapore Idol finalist Haneri (Daphne Khoo) and singer-songwriter Shakthiyas singing about Subway’s Rendang sub and calling all Rendang lovers to unite. The contest runs from 21 July to 4 August 2021 and winners will be informed via direct message on Facebook when the contest ends.
