Don’t Runaway is Singapore’s boldest new sandwich pop-up, serving free, flavour-packed creations in Joo Chiat from 29 August. Each weekend features a new star sandwich with no repeats, plus exclusive merch for early birds. It’s rebellious, fun, and the ultimate food experience for anyone craving bold flavours.

What if I told you that some of the boldest sandwiches in Singapore are completely free? Yes, you read that right. A rebellious new pop-up, Don’t Runaway, is crashing into Joo Chiat and shaking up the food scene with saucy stacks that break every rule of what a sandwich should be.

A Sandwich Pop-Up with Attitude

Don’t Runaway isn’t just another eatery. It’s part dining, part lifestyle, and part edible rebellion. Every weekend from August 29, 2025, hungry Singaporeans can expect a one-sandwich-only menu that changes weekly. No repeats, no complicated lists to choose from, just one star sandwich taking the spotlight. And the best part? Each sandwich is completely free, limited to one per person per weekend.

The experience is fast, fun, and intentionally chaotic. Instead of a predictable café vibe, Don’t Runaway feels like a party between two slices of bread. It’s loud, unapologetic, and dripping with flavour.

The Story Behind Don’t Runaway

The brainchild of The Platform Collective, the same people who created Champion Bolo Bun and Dickson Nasi Lemak, Don’t Runaway is inspired by founder Hoh Loyi’s food journey across the United States. After months of sampling pastrami in New York and meatball subs in Chicago, she returned to Singapore with one big realisation: sandwiches could be more than just a quick bite. They could be messy, exciting, and full of personality.

Don’t Runaway takes that American sandwich energy and remixes it with Asian flair. Think bold flavours, unexpected textures, and just enough heat to make it uniquely Singaporean.

The Sandwich Line-Up

Every week brings a new creation, but here’s a taste of what you might find:

The Side Chick

Smoked chicken layered with a punchy white sauce, finished with a crunch of pumpkin seed dukkah. It’s smoky, spicy, and designed to get messy.

Mortadel-lah

Rich mortadella stacked with creamy stracciatella cheese, spiked with salsa verde and a kick of yuzukosho. It’s indulgent, chaotic, and dangerously addictive.

Jack & Loaded

A plant-based powerhouse with smoky jackfruit chilli that delivers the comfort of pulled pork without the meat. Full of attitude, all plant, all flavour.

Beef Me Up

A wild remix of Tan Tan Mian turned into a sandwich. Expect juicy beef brisket, smooth peanut butter, and a house-made chilli crunch cooked down for hours. It’s nutty, fiery, and completely unhinged.

How to Get Your Hands on One

It’s simple. Download the Don’t Runaway app from the App Store or Google Play, sign up, and flash your QR code at the pop-up. In return, you’ll get one sandwich and an ice-cold Coke to wash it down.

There’s no price tag, no hidden conditions, just good food and honest feedback. The team encourages every diner to leave their thoughts on the app, using real customer reactions to shape the future of their brick-and-mortar outlet.

Free Merch for the Early Birds

Two orange tote bags reading "Don’t Runaway Singapore" hang on hooks against a pale wall, evoking Joo Chiat’s local charm.

If free sandwiches aren’t enough, there’s exclusive Don’t Runaway merchandise up for grabs. Each weekend, the first 20 in line will score something different:

  • Fridays: limited-edition keychain
  • Saturdays: Don’t Runaway tote bag
  • Sundays: quirky iron-on patch

These items won’t be restocked, so if you’re a collector, line up early.

Why Joo Chiat?

Joo Chiat has always been a melting pot of culture, history, and food. From traditional Peranakan eateries to hip cafés, it’s the perfect neighbourhood for a concept that celebrates boldness and reinvention. Don’t Runaway slots right into the energy of the district, adding its flavour-packed personality to the scene.

Final Bite

Don’t Runaway isn’t just about feeding you, it’s about creating a vibe you want to be part of. It’s rebellious, fun, and worth the queue. If you love food with personality and the thrill of trying something new, make Joo Chiat your weekend stop.

So the question is, will you join the flavour riot, or will you run away?
