Usually, you call a TV show good or maybe scary. However, with the sci-tech drama of Netflix, Black Mirror, the interpretations are far more than just that.

What makes the Black Mirror so unsettling is the fact that most of its episodes take place in a world which could easily pass of your own, after only a few more advancements in the technology.

In this article, I will share some of my insights over if the Black Mirror can become a reality in the future or, be more precisely, in the near future.

Be Right Back

In one episode of the series, the husband of a woman dies. She soon learnt that there is a service which can bring him back to life using his videos, photos, and social media posts.

In the starting, she chats with him but then starts speaking by phone. Finally, the real-life version of his husband starts living wither helping in bringing up their daughter.

Although the latter part of the series seems difficult, on the first two things scientists are already researching.

There are chatbots run by artificial intelligence, and Google has recently given a glance at its latest service in which a service can book an appointment for you over the phone.

Fifteen Million Merits

In the second episode of the Black Mirror, a distant future is imagined in which people have to pedal certain stationary bikes in order to power buildings and earn currency (known as merits). This currency is used to arrange food and for entertainment.

If you imagine the future of this real world, the increasing requirement of electricity would need people to produce their electricity on their own. It could be a way to earn money as well.

In fact, nowadays, bikes are being used at many places to produce electricity as people pedal them – in gyms and initiatives where the focus is to increase the awareness in people about the importance of fossil fuel.

Nosedive

In the first episode of the third season, a social rating system is shown similar to how people can rate on-demand services like Postmates.

In the series, each person has a contact lens which is permanent, and it allows him/her to see the rating of any person behind heads of people.

In China, there is a social credit score in which the citizens of the country earn a specific score on how often they get traffic tickets, loan payments, and break any other form of social trust. People who break trusts of people often face a hard time accessing certain services.

Final Thoughts

There are many other episodes of this science fiction in which technologies are shown that can become a reality in near future.

The series shows an advanced form of many technologies that are being researched by scientists. Some of these technologies are already in use in their early stages.

It seems that creators of Black Mirror are trying to predict future on the basis of the latest technologies man is already using.
