December has always been our family’s favourite month of the year. It is a school holiday month which makes my boy happy and my wife’s birthday falls on December. Hooray! With Christmas around the corner, the festive mood feels good with sparkling lights in the night and soothing Christmas songs playing everywhere. To make this December even better, we are heading for a one night staycation at Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy hotel.

A staycation is the best getaway from home. There is no need to worry about housework, long haul flights, exchanging of currencies and buying of travel insurance. During a hotel staycation, guests can use the hotel’s facilities, watch a late night movie and enjoy supper before heading back to the hotel for a good night rest. All you need to do is to find a good hotel with great convenience for entertainment, activities and food.

Quick Facts About Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy

Under the management of ACCORHOTELS, Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy is located at Katong, the eastern side of Singapore. Take a walk in this neighbourhood and you will get to see many colourful Peranakan influenced architectures in Katong. What I love about Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy is the location. The hotel is 15 minutes walk away to East Coast beach and 5 minutes walk away to two large shopping malls, Parkway Parade and I12 Katong. The hotel also provides complimentary shuttle bus to Changi Airport.

There are 4 restaurants in Grand Mercure Roxy. They are Wave Cafe (1evel 1), Feast@East Buffet Restaurant (level 3), Jia Wei Chinese Restaurant (level 2) and Breez Bistro • Bar (level 4). For the convenience of the hotel guests, there is a coin-operated launderette and 24 hours fitness centre for hotel guests who enjoy working out. With function rooms available on level 3 and 4, Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy is able to host weddings, events and conferences.

Our Family Staycation Experience

Since this is a weekend staycation, staying in the room the whole day is a bad idea. We are fortunate to get a 37m square Deluxe Poolside With Terrace room during this year-end peak season. This is the third largest room in the hotel. The largest room, which is the Business Suite, measures 54m square. Stepping out of our room, we have direct access to the outdoor swimming pool. It felt really good to order our welcome drink from Breez Bistro • Bar and enjoy the outdoor.

Before going for our family late night movie, “Sing”, in I12 Katong’s Golden Village, we had our dinner in Breez Bistro • Bar. Located at level 4, Breez Bistro • Bar has both indoor and outdoor seating. Every Friday and Saturday, there will be live music performances during the evening. During our dinner in the bistro, we were served with mocktails first. They are the tangy Strawberry Margarita and sparkling Lychee Breeze.

The bistro also served us freshly baked bread, caesar salad and a hot bowl of mushroom soup. Despite the bread are to be enjoyed with the accompanying olive oil, I would prefer to have them together with the mushroom soup. Tearing the bread, dipping each piece into the mushroom soup and enjoy it. Delicious!

For our mains, we had Pan Seared Salmon and Oven Roasted Half Spring Chicken.

Finally, here come our desserts, the Cheesecake and Tiramisu prepared without alcohol.

Breakfast At Feast@East Buffet Restaurant

At 9 am, we heading to Feast@East Buffet Restaurant for our breakfast. Like many hotel breakfast buffets, Grand Mercure Roxy has a good spread of food, ranging from pastries to eastern delights like dim sum. My personal favourite? The porridge. The buffet restaurant got all my favourite savoury dishes except for salted duck eggs.

If you love to have coffee in the morning, Feast@East serves pretty decent coffee. Straight from the coffee machine, you can have familiar coffee favourites such as Cappuccino, Latte, Espresso and Mocha. Want some hint of spice in your drink? Get a cinnamon stick provided at the coffee stations!

Christmas Celebration At Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy

This holiday season from 18 November to 2 January 2017, Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy will be coming up with a series of traditional Christmas favourites and a New Year Countdown Party.

The hotel will be showcasing a mix of contemporary Western and a twist on traditional Asian Christmas cuisine at the newly refurbished Feast@East Buffet Restaurant on level 3. Guests can enjoy the sumptuous festive spread with their family in comfort. Enjoy 50% off on Lunch and Dinner which is valid on every Wednesday, along with nett prices for Senior and Pioneer Citizens.

Celebrate The Year Of The Rooster At Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy

In a month’s time, the Chinese Lunar New Year will be arriving. Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy will be introducing a series of traditional takeaways and new additions by Head Chef Lester Wang and Head Chef Victor Lee from 6 January 2017 to 12 February 2017.

Located at level 2, Jia Wei Chinese Restaurant will be featuring Head Chef Victor Lee’s signature Baked Pork Trotter in Golden Ingot, which must be ordered one day in advance. Comprising of a mixture of ingredients such as pork trotter, Eight-Head Abalone and Sea Moss, these ingredients are prepared and enclosed within a golden ingot-shaped salted crust and baked to preserve the natural flavours. Do not miss his variation of Fortune Pot “Pen Cai” and Buddha Jumps Over the Wall that are traditional favourites during the Lunar New Year.

💎 Weekend adventure at Jewel Changi! We had lunch at Song Fa Bak Kut Teh. Of course, ended it all with some waterfall fun, the classic Jewel style.
🥐 Dropped by Moonchild Café at Jalan Besar for brunch and coffee after a late night catching up on GE2025 🗳️. Definitely needed that caffeine fix!

The café has a cosy, laid-back vibe with good coffee, waffles, and bakes — plus it’s dog-friendly, which is always a win. 🐶

🚌 It’s about a 15-minute walk from Bendemeer MRT, but if you’re coming from Tampines, just take Bus 23 — it stops right outside the café.

📍 If you’re looking for a chill spot in the Jalan Besar area with good vibes and brunch, this one’s worth checking out.
😌 TGIF! I’m taking a break from all the rally heat with some grilled goodness at Sinpopo.

🧈 The Damn Good Kaya & Salty Butter Sandwich really good, plus teh tarik, coffee and peanut mochi for that extra mood boost.
