Immerse yourself in the misty peaks of Alishan with TWG Tea Singapore’s latest cinematic masterpiece. Above the Clouds of Alishan unveils the artistry, heritage, and dedication behind Taiwan’s legendary Oolong tea, showcasing the craftsmanship that has elevated this tea to luxury status.

Have you ever sipped a cup of exquisite tea that transported you to another world? TWG Tea Singapore invites you on a journey to the misty mountains of Taiwan with their latest short film, Above the Clouds of Alishan. This beautifully crafted documentary peeks into the soul of Alishan Oolong, capturing the magic of its origins and the passion behind each carefully harvested leaf.

Why Alishan Oolong is Taiwan’s Most Treasured Tea

Amid lush terraces, two scientists in white coats examine Alishan Oolong tea leaves; one wears a straw hat and gestures.

Nestled in the high-altitude region of Chiayi County, Alishan Oolong thrives in a landscape of rolling hills and cool, mist-laden air. Unsurprisingly, this tea is one of Taiwan’s most celebrated exports. The delicate balance of high humidity, mineral-rich soil, and fluctuating mountain temperatures results in a tea that is smooth, aromatic, and delightfully complex.

Unlike fully oxidised black tea or fresh green tea, Alishan Oolong undergoes partial oxidation, allowing it to develop a layered profile. With floral notes, a honeyed sweetness, and a silky mouthfeel, it has become a favourite among tea connoisseurs in Singapore and worldwide.

The Art of Crafting Alishan Oolong at TWG Tea Singapore

TWG Tea Singapore’s short film takes you behind the scenes of Alishan Oolong’s meticulous production process. From the moment the leaves are handpicked to the final roasting, every step is executed with precision and care, preserving the tea’s delicate characteristics.

A Glimpse into the Tea-Making Process:

  1. Handpicking at Sunrise – The best Alishan Oolong is plucked in the early hours when the dew-kissed leaves are freshest.
  2. Withering & Oxidation – This crucial stage enhances the tea’s natural aroma and flavour complexity.
  3. Fixing & Rolling – Gentle heating halts oxidation, followed by expert rolling to shape the leaves.
  4. Drying & Roasting – The final touch, giving Alishan Oolong its distinct, captivating fragrance.

TWG Tea Singapore’s Dedication to Authenticity and Excellence

TWG Tea Singapore has long been synonymous with luxury and innovation in the tea industry. Their dedication to sourcing only the finest leaves ensures that every sip of Alishan Oolong embodies the rich heritage and tradition of Taiwan’s iconic blue tea.

As part of their Tea Origin Film Series, Above the Clouds of Alishan is not just a documentary—it is a homage to the generations of artisans who have perfected the craft of Alishan Oolong. This film brings to life the deep-rooted connection between nature, culture, and tea through breathtaking cinematography and expert storytelling.

The Ultimate Alishan Oolong Experience

TWG Tea Singapore offers two exquisite variations of Alishan Oolong:

  • Alishan Imperial – A lightly fermented tea with a delicate floral and vegetal bouquet, perfect for a refined palate.
  • Alishan Superior – A moderately fermented Oolong with a golden amber infusion and an intoxicating floral aroma.

Both are available at TWG Tea Singapore boutiques and online, inviting you to bring home a taste of Taiwan’s finest.

A Story Steeped in History

The tale of Alishan Oolong traces back to the Qing Dynasty when tea cultivators from Fujian brought their skills to Taiwan’s fertile landscapes. Over centuries, their dedication to craftsmanship transformed Alishan into a revered tea-producing region. Even Portuguese explorers, mesmerised by Taiwan’s beauty, christened it Ilha Formosa—the Beautiful Island.

Through this stunning short film, TWG Tea Singapore transports you to the heart of Taiwan’s tea culture, offering an intimate look at the time-honoured traditions that make Alishan Oolong so special.

💎 Weekend adventure at Jewel Changi! We had lunch at Song Fa Bak Kut Teh. Of course, ended it all with some waterfall fun, the classic Jewel style.
🥐 Dropped by Moonchild Café at Jalan Besar for brunch and coffee after a late night catching up on GE2025 🗳️. Definitely needed that caffeine fix!

The café has a cosy, laid-back vibe with good coffee, waffles, and bakes — plus it’s dog-friendly, which is always a win. 🐶

🚌 It’s about a 15-minute walk from Bendemeer MRT, but if you’re coming from Tampines, just take Bus 23 — it stops right outside the café.

📍 If you’re looking for a chill spot in the Jalan Besar area with good vibes and brunch, this one’s worth checking out.
