This Year Of The Fire Rooster, Toa Payoh Mellben Seafood will be preparing three delectable set menus for the coming Chinese celebrations. Ranging from $388 nett to $999 nett, these set menus will be available from January 20 to February 11, 2017. The only two dates which are exception are 28 and 29 January where the restaurants will be close.

Known as the “King Of Seafood Crabs” (海鲜螃蟹王), the main crab highlight for this Lunar New Year 2017 is the Tom Yum Crab Bee Hoon. Started out as a small stall along Alexandra Road in 1988, Mellben Seafood has expanded to various outlets islandwide, making this seafood restaurant a household name for local seafood dining.

Enjoying Our Chinese New Year Set A Menu ($338 Nett)

Serve well for four to six persons, Toa Payoh Mellben Seafood’s Set A menu comes with 7 sumptuous delights that will tantalise your taste buds.

Yu Sheng has always been the first dish during Lunar New Year celebrations in Chinese restaurants. The year, Mellben Seafood is replacing raw salmon with abalone, naming this dish Jade Abalone Yu Sheng (白玉鲍捞生).

This is my favourite dish in Mellben Seafood’s CNY menu, the Salmon With Sesame Honey Sauce (蜜汁香煎三文鱼). The thin slices of salmon are deep fried until golden brown and covered with a “fishnet” made of flour batter. Every slice of the fried salmon is not greasy and from far, don’t they looked like golden nuggets?

If you love soup, you will love the Double Boiled Chicken Soup with Fish Maw & Black Garlic (黑蒜花胶王鲜菌纯鸡汤). With one whole chicken brewed with exotic ingredients like fish maw, black garlic and other Chinese herbs, the broth is sweet and light-hearted.

Called the Pan-fried Walnut Prawns in Special Sauce (川烧核挑鲜虾球), the special sauce used in this dish is actually bean sauce. The large prawns are savoury and give a chewy mouthfeel. On the plate are caramelised walnuts.

Many will find the slices bamboo fungus known as 竹笙, rather unique in this dish. Braised with chicken broth, the bamboo fungus looks very much like fish maw and cabbage. Each slice of them is soaked up with the chicken broth. This dish is called the Chicken Broth Braised Fungus on Hong Kong Kailan (鸡汁竹笙扒芥兰).

Who can miss out Toa Payoh Mellben Seafood CNY special dish, Tom Yum Crab Bee Hoon? Cooked with one 800 grams crab, this seafood Tom Yum soup will appeal to many people. Time to get your fingers messy!

Finally, the golden dessert, Chilled Pumpkin Sago with Red Bean, Corn & Snow Fungus (金栗凉粉红豆金瓜露). Besides red bean, corn and snow fungus, the chef also added grass jelly into the dessert.

Mellben Seafood’s CNY Set Menu will appeal to many local and oversea guests. There are a total of 3 different Chinese New Year sets, Set A (4 to 6pax – $399 nett), Set B (8 to 10pax – $739 nett) and Set C (10 to 12pax – $999 nett). For reservations on the eve of Chinese New Year, a deposit of a minimum of $100 is required. There will be no refunds for cancellations.
