The world of smartphones is constantly changing, and two major players, Google and Apple, are always trying to outdo each other and attract consumers. Google recently made a bold move by creating a series of clever ads that humorously pointed out the outdated features of Apple’s iPhones compared to the innovative capabilities of Google’s Pixel phones. These ads demonstrated Google’s confidence in its products and added excitement to the ongoing competition between the two brands.

The “Best Phones Forever” Campaign

Google’s “Best Phones Forever” campaign featured five engaging ads that effectively highlighted the advantages of Pixel phones over iPhones. Each ad playfully pointed out the limitations and age of iPhones while showcasing the remarkable features of Pixel phones. Let’s take a closer look at these ads and the features they emphasize.

Plateau: A Comical Comparison

In an advertisement called “Plateau,” the iPhone jokingly expressed frustration with its age of 14 years, which made it incapable of matching the Pixel’s 30x zoom, astrophotography features, and advanced artificial intelligence. The ad used playful banter to showcase the Pixel’s camera and AI superiority, with the iPhone self-deprecatingly remarking, “When I was your age, people were showing me off to their friends,” and the Pixel pityingly responding, “They still do! You’re legendary.”

Opening Up: The Power of a Foldable Display

In another ad, Google looked at Apple’s lack of a foldable display. The ad showcased the Pixel Fold, Google’s latest addition to the Pixel lineup. While Apple has yet to venture into foldable smartphones, Google embraced this innovative technology and highlighted its advantages. The ad left the iPhone dumbfounded, questioning the year and pondering if flying cars had become a reality. This clever comparison showcased Google’s progressive approach and its commitment to pushing the boundaries of smartphone design.

Lifesaver: Wireless Charging to the Rescue

Many smartphones now have wireless charging, but the iPhone still lacks this feature. In an advertisement called “Lifesaver,” the Pixel showcased its wireless charging capabilities by reviving an iPhone that had run out of battery. This playful jab at the iPhone’s limitations highlighted the Pixel’s capacity to meet the changing needs of consumers by providing them with convenient and efficient charging options.

Seeing Stars: Capturing the Beauty of the Night Sky

The Pixel smartphone is known for its impressive ability to take beautiful night sky photos. In a commercial called “Seeing Stars,” the iPhone and Pixel were shown looking at the stars. The iPhone was shown as envious of the Pixel’s astrophotography skills and expressed disappointment in its inability to capture the stars as clearly. This comparison emphasized the Pixel’s superior low-light photography and impressed viewers with its ability to capture the beauty of the night sky.

Sketchy Wi-Fi: Privacy and Security

Privacy and security are paramount concerns for smartphone users. In the ad “Sketchy Wi-Fi,” Google took a playful dig at Apple’s stance on public Wi-Fi privacy. The iPhone melodramatically exclaimed, “I’m going to crash! Get off public Wi-Fi! There are… hackers here.” In response, the Pixel reassured the iPhone, citing its built-in virtual private network (VPN) as a security feature absent in its competitor. This comparison emphasized Pixel’s commitment to protecting user data and providing a secure browsing experience.

Google’s Playful Jabs and Hypocrisy

Although Google’s ads effectively showcased the limitations of the iPhone, some viewers noticed the irony and hypocrisy in Google’s approach. Google had removed the headphone port from its Pixel phones, similar to Apple’s controversial decision with the iPhone 7. Users pointed out that Google’s smug ad mocking the absence of a headphone port in iPhones was hypocritical, as Google had followed Apple’s lead and removed this feature from its own devices.

However, Google’s “Best Phones Forever” campaign still managed to capture the attention of tech enthusiasts. The ads presented the Pixel phones as cutting-edge devices that surpassed the capabilities of the iPhone, and their playful and witty tone made the complex technological details easy to understand and relatable to a broad audience.

The Tradition of Brand Rivalries

It’s not uncommon for companies like Google, Samsung, and Microsoft to take playful jabs at Apple through their advertisements. Samsung, known for its bold marketing strategies, often releases ads after Apple’s iPhone launches, promoting the innovative features of their Fold and Flip series. Similarly, Microsoft has created ads comparing PCs with Macs, highlighting the versatility and superiority of their products. These friendly rivalries have become a part of the tech industry’s culture, driving innovation and competition.

💎 Weekend adventure at Jewel Changi! We had lunch at Song Fa Bak Kut Teh. Of course, ended it all with some waterfall fun, the classic Jewel style.
🥐 Dropped by Moonchild Café at Jalan Besar for brunch and coffee after a late night catching up on GE2025 🗳️. Definitely needed that caffeine fix!

The café has a cosy, laid-back vibe with good coffee, waffles, and bakes — plus it’s dog-friendly, which is always a win. 🐶

🚌 It’s about a 15-minute walk from Bendemeer MRT, but if you’re coming from Tampines, just take Bus 23 — it stops right outside the café.

📍 If you’re looking for a chill spot in the Jalan Besar area with good vibes and brunch, this one’s worth checking out.
