Continuing into the new year is the newly launched Earth Alive exhibition for an edutaining deep dive into learning about the world around us. Bring your family to see, feel, and experience the Earth’s wonder through active, engaging exhibits, and compelling visual displays!
Created in partnership with the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS), a Research Centre of Excellence at the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore, the exhibits have been categorised into different spheres that reflect Earth sciences and systems – Geosphere, Hydrosphere and Atmosphere. Each sphere looks at how changes on the Earth can manifest onto the environment, causing natural disasters. A fourth section – the Human Sphere – focuses on the impact of human lives on the Earth. Here are the key exhibits at the Earth Alive exhibition:
GAIA
Be mesmerised by the GAIA, a 5-metre inflatable globe installation by artist Luke Jerram. This installation features detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface.
Giant Slinky
Send dramatic P and S waves of an earthquake down a giant slinky!
AR Sandbox
Create and shape a landscape using sand, and watch real-time topographic projections that connect the elevation and contour lines. Plus, you can even create “rain” with your hands, and watch the rain form a watershed on the landscape.
Earth Visualisation
Check out visualisations of various Earth datasets on a high-resolution multi-screen display. You can cue and combine visualisations via an interactive kiosk and watch them play out across the video wall.
Disaster Teamwork
To reduce the impact of natural hazards, people need to work together and coordinate their efforts. Work with others to get the little human blocks to high ground and save them from a flood!
From 8 to 31 January, you can also complete the Earth Alive Gallery Quiz at Hall B and stand a chance to take home some complimentary treats! Better yet, dress up in your best earth-themed costumes from 15 to 31 January to receive a special goody bag! (This is limited to the first 20 redemptions per session.)
