What to Expect at Gemilang Kampong Gelam 2025?

A vibrant isometric illustration showcases a festive village with a mosque, lit decorations, and a "20th Campaign 25th Celebration" sign.

Following the success of the 2024 edition, which saw 1.1 million visitors, this year’s festival is set to be even grander. Organised by One Kampong Gelam with support from the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), the event offers food, shopping, performances, and family-friendly activities.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s in store for visitors.

One of the event’s biggest highlights is the food and retail bazaar, featuring 80 food and beverage stalls with a mix of traditional and modern delights. Some returning favourites include:

  • House of Lemang – Serving authentic, fragrant lemang (glutinous rice cooked in bamboo).
  • Picanhas – Known for its juicy, tender steaks.
  • Satay Ummi – A long-time crowd favourite offering mouthwatering satay skewers.

For those craving fusion flavours, don’t miss:

    • Smashed Burger – A trendy take on the classic beef burger.
    • Al Papi Tacos – A unique twist on Mexican street food with local influences.
    • Flamboyant Goon Croissants – Serving up creatively flavoured croissants.

And for those with a sweet tooth, try the Kunafa from ALAA or indulge in Turkuaz Turkish ice cream.

But it’s not just about food! Shoppers will love browsing trendy and traditional brands, including Baju Fifty-Eight, Deanqaisara, and Pretty Sugar, for festive outfits, cookies, and decorations.

Sultan Mosque Light Show: A Visual Spectacle

A mosque's dome glows under vibrant lights against the night sky, while nearby trees whisper Kampong Gelam's festive tales.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, the Sultan Mosque Light Show returns in 2025 with a 5.1 Surround Sound experience. This mesmerising display, featuring an original score by composer Sha’aban Yahya, will light up the mosque’s facade with stunning visuals of date trees, ketupat, and olives—symbols of community and Ramadan.

📅 Schedule: Every Friday to Sunday, from 7:40 PM to 9:00 PM (in 15-minute intervals).

Hands-On Workshops: Experience Kampong Gelam’s Heritage

This year, the bazaar offers several interactive workshops, perfect for those who want to immerse themselves in culture and sustainability. Some highlights include:

    • Arabic Calligraphy Workshop (by Erwan Bar): Learn the delicate art of Arabic lettering and create a personalised piece to take home.
    • Arts by Hanisa M: A creative session where participants paint Batik-inspired designs on coasters, vases, and wooden frames.
    • Seni Sini Workshops: Engage in interactive Dikir Barat Puppet Play and other creative activities.
    • Coffee Revive Workshop: Discover how to turn used coffee grounds into luxurious exfoliating soaps.

📍 Price: $20 per person (except Seni Sini workshops, which are free). 📅 Timing: Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

    New Activities for SG60 Celebrations

As Singapore celebrates SG60, Gemilang Kampong Gelam introduces three exciting activities:

    🏃 Kampong Tour

Take a 2-hour guided tour through Kampong Gelam, including visits to the majestic Masjid Sultan and Kandahar Street. Plus, all tour participants will receive a S$15 Ramadan Bazaar voucher!

🔍 Kampong Hunt (Mystery Treasure Hunt)

Search for hidden Gemilang Kampong Gelam 2025 coins across the district for a chance to win up to S$8,000 in cash. Follow social media for hints and interact with local shops for clues.

    📬 Stamp Rally

Explore the streets of Kampong Gelam and collect coloured stamps at four key locations to complete a special-edition postcard souvenir.

Mass Iftar: A Communal Breaking of Fast

The bustling Kampong Gelam Bazaar buzzes with energy as crowds gather at long tables under a white canopy.

One of the most meaningful parts of the festival is the Mass Iftar on 22 March 2025. 1,000 participants, including community beneficiaries, will gather along Arab Street to break fast together. This is a powerful reminder of unity, gratitude, and tradition during Ramadan.

Kampong Charity Run 2025: Running for a Cause

For the first time, the festival kicks off with the Kampong Charity Run 2025 on 15 February 2025. Organised in collaboration with Drugfree SG and Big Boyz Run Club, this 2.4km run promotes healthy living and raises funds for the Kampong Gelam Community Centre.

    📍 Time: 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM
    👟 Participants: 200 runners
🎗️ Proceeds: Supporting families in need

Sustainability at the Heart of GKG 2025

The festival is taking significant steps toward sustainability. This year, all drink partners will offer discounts for visitors who bring reusable bottles. Additionally, almost half of all F&B stalls will use recycled packaging materials.

💡 Exciting Green Initiative: The event has partnered with Gorental.SG to introduce solar-powered generators, reducing carbon emissions and ensuring an eco-friendly festival experience.
