As part of the “Discover the Nutcracker and the Whimsical Realms of Christmas” campaign by Capitol Singapore and CHIJMES, you can bond with your family in a series of workshops entitled “School Holiday Performing Arts Workshops at Capitol Theatre”.
Take your pick from more than 40 performing arts workshops focused on dance, music, and theatre as follows:
Singapore Ballet Academy
Singapore Ballet Academy is Singapore’s oldest ballet school. Established in 1958, the Academy aims to create awareness of ballet through high standard dance training, and to provide a platform for stage performance in Singapore and the region. Through the years, they have produced a lot of alumni who have pursued full-time training at prestigious schools abroad and who have returned as professional dancers and teachers.
Singapore Ballet Academy’s Workshops
The Nutcracker Ballet 3-Half-Day Workshop (8-12 years)
Ages: 8-10 years (S$400) and 11-12 years (S$420)
When: December 16 – 18
8 – 10 year old: 9AM – 1:15PM (4 hours 15 minutes per day)
11 – 12 years old: 1:45PM – 6PM (4 hours 15 minutes per day)
Dance in Christmas merriment this holiday season with this special Nutcracker-themed ballet workshop! Comprising of daily ballet, ballet repertory and jazz classes, participants will be guided through the fundamentals of classical ballet and jazz moves in an engaging syllabus over the three days and work towards a dance presentation that includes an original choreography of The Nutcracker at the end of the workshop.
The workshop is for children aged 8 to 10 years old with at least a RAD Grade 1 or equivalent levels of other recognised dance accreditations.
The workshop is for children aged 11 & 12 years old, with at least a RAD Grade 3 or equivalent levels of other recognised dance accreditations.
*The dance presentation will be filmed and shared with participants.
Parent and Child Ballet 2-Hour Workshop
Ages: children aged 5 years old and up, and their parents ($85 per pair)
When: December 19 (10AM – 12PM or 1PM – 3PM)
Bond with your kids as you learn the basic fundamentals of Classical Ballet, create simple costumes, and learn a partnering Nutcracker dance together.
The Nutcracker Ballet 2-Half-Day Masterclass
Ages: students at RAD Intermediate level or higher (S$300)
When: December 14 – 15 (10AM – 3:45PM)
Set to the theme of The Nutcracker ballet, this 2-day masterclass comprises of daily ballet technique and ballet variation classes led by former Singapore Dance Theatre artist, Toru Okada, as well as contemporary dance classes led by Frontier Danceland artist, Ma Yue Ru.
Participants will get to focus on details and improve their knowledge through the ballet technique class and learn a ballet variation from the well-loved Christmas classic. Participants will also be exposed to the contemporary dance genre where they get to express through fluid dance movements.
This workshop is suitable for students who are at the RAD Intermediate Foundation level and above, or equivalent levels of other recognised dance accreditations.

Are your kids shy? The light and portable cajon might just bring out their talent and confidence! While playing rhythmic skills to much-loved songs, your children are sure to have a ton of fun at this workshop. You may either have your kid bring a cajon to this workshop or buy one for the session.
Kids Ukulele 5-Half-Day Workshop
Ages: 8 – 16 years (from S$480)
When: November 23 – November 27 (2PM – 6PM)
Ukuleles are small, light, child-friendly, and easy to learn. Through this workshop, your children will learn beautiful chords and catchy patterns that will get them singing and playing their favourite songs in no time. You may either have your kid bring a ukulele to this workshop or buy one for the session.
Music Making in the City (Christian Songs) 1-Hour Cajon Workshop

The cajon is a great instrument for tasteful rhythms and grooves that will energise and uplift everyone around you. Get the whole family together and learn Christian worship and praise songs with a cajon. You may bring your own cajon for this workshop or rent one for the session.
Music Making in the City (Christian Songs) 1-Hour Ukulele Workshop
Ages: adults and families (from S$50)

Nutcracker in a Nutshell 5-Half-Day Workshop

When: December 7 – December 11 (9AM – 1PM and 2PM – 6PM)
If your kids are in primary school, they can learn all about ‘The Nutcracker’ through fun role play in this workshop. Here, they will be taught various acting techniques, audition skills, characterisation, staging, stage combat, and professional theatre stage performance. Your kids will need to bring a water bottle, a sweater, a notebook, and a pencil case to this workshop.
