I went to Parkway Parade today for my shopping needs and found out that the basement food court has completed it’s renovation work. Just outside this food court, there is this new pastry shop named Thye Moh Chen, 泰茂栈 in Chinese, that sells assorted types of traditional pastries like tau sar piah, rice cakes and pineapple cakes. Their business focus is more on wedding and newborn pastries.

The staff is helpful in recommending their pastries to us, with a little help from their brochure.

The pastries are all well-kept in the glass cabinet. With that layout, it feels like I am choosing some jewellery.

Chefs making the pastries in the open concept kitchen. Anyone wants to steal their baking recipes?

Opening discounts for pastries. Great time to buy some for food tasting.

There are currently 2 outlets for Thye Moh Chen. Here are the addresses.

I bought 2 favours of their rice cakes, red bean and pandan. The aroma of the rice cakes are excellent but it is not chewy enough.

The black sesame indicates that it is with melon fillings.

My first taste of the salted and melon tau sar piahs. Their salted tau sar piah is a totally recommended and must try item. The fragrance of it is great and the taste lingers inside my mouth for quite some time. No wonder the staff say is their bestselling pastry. The melon tau sar piah is not very sweet and my mum loves it.20121229-215459.jpg

My son loves the flaky crust of the tau sar piah and he keeps coming back to me.
