Be honest: how have you been spending your weekends lately? If you have been spending most of your time indoors, binge-watching your favourite series and movies; then we encourage you to go out and do something different for a change. While there is nothing wrong with spending some me-time at home, it’s always nice to get a change of scenery and move around a bit. And let’s not forget that health is wealth, especially during these trying times.

If you need some motivation to venture out, why not do it for a cause? Maybank Singapore has organised a virtual charity walk called ‘Walk for Humanity’, which aims to raise funds for Singapore Red Cross (SRC) and do good for humanity one step at a time. The funds will go towards SRC’s local and regional humanitarian efforts.

From 20 February to 20 March, members of the public can join #WalkForHumanity to raise funds for SRC’s humanitarian work. To sign up for the walk, register for free at the 42Race website or mobile app now. Maybank will donate S$10 for every kilometre clocked by participants, capped at S$150,000 in donations for humanitarian aid for communities affected by the floods in Malaysia and Typhoon Rai in the Philippines. Plus, they will donate an extra S$50,000 if participants clock in a total of 100,000 km by the end of the campaign. How great is that?

You can also head over to Giving.sg to make a donation or amplify your support by starting your own fundraising campaign and getting your friends to donate as you clock your steps! Your donations will go towards Singapore Red Cross’ local programmes for the elderly living on their own. Remember: every little bit helps!

You’ll also enjoy perks for joining the walk! Everyone will get an e-certification and e-badge. Plus, you will get access to the 42Race rewards page where you’ll find various online promotions and redemptions from popular vendors including Distrii and Market Cafe. For participating offline stores, you can simply flash your confirmation email or the 42Race in-app rewards to get discounts, while stocks last.

To help you clock your steps easily, we’ve rounded up some fun activities that you can do!

Island Hopping

There are quite a few gorgeous islands to explore in Singapore if you need a change of scenery from city life, and we highly recommend visiting Pulau Ubin. Just a 10-minute boat ride away, the island only has fewer than 50 residents and is the perfect place to visit to see what the old way of life was like. A visit to Pulau Ubin will make you feel like you’ve been transported into another time.

Hiking

Some time away from the city is always a good idea, and connecting with nature will make the experience all the more memorable. One way to do this would be by going hiking. Plus, you’ll get some good exercise.

Pulau Ubin happens to be a great place for hiking, too, but there are also many other gorgeous hiking trails in Singapore, even if we don’t have tall mountains for it. One of the most popular hikes is the MacRitchie Treetop Walk, which features different routes for different fitness levels. Regardless of how active you are, you are sure to find a route for you.

Enjoying Lush Greenery

If you want to enjoy lush greenery and beautiful scenery, the MacRitchie Treetop Walk offers that, too. You may even get to see some monkeys and birds along the way; and at the top, get ready for a breathtaking bird’s eye view of the lush green canopy below.

If you want to see a lot of changing scenery, the Southern Ridges are also surrounded by lush greenery and landscape views of Mount Faber; you definitely won’t get enough of it.

Appreciating Art

Art abounds in Singapore and there are plenty of galleries and museums for you to visit. National Gallery Singapore alone houses over 9,000 works of art. In fact, it houses the biggest public modern art collection in Southeast Asia. It’s usually less busy on a weekday if you want to ensure some quiet time.

If you want to get some exercise while shopping and enjoying art at the same time, the urban art trail at Little India is a place that shouldn’t be missed. There are a ton of interesting shops to see here, as well as stunning murals. They even have fortune-telling tables along the way. Of course, the trail also has a lot of choices for food just in case you get hungry during your excursion.
