It has been more than 1 week since Kayden caught a nasty virus. Since then, he has been confined at home. No school sounds like an awesome plan for him, but no outdoor playground makes him felt like the world is about to end. “Papa, when we going for another bouncy castle again? I like bouncy castle.” Whenever my little fellow asked me this question, he will be jumping on either our sofa in the living room or his bed. Since he is feeling much better, I have decided to bring him to a special place where he can jump in the bouncy castle as much as he love to. As for parents like me, I will enjoy my meal and take lovely photographs of our family outing.
Combining up-close barbecue experiences and live music performances, Timbre @ Gillman is located in Gillman Barracks. This is an open concept restaurant with a large backyard. Surrounded by huge lush greenies, this restaurant is just 20 minutes bus ride away from Harbourfront station.
Since I am bringing my family to Timbre @ Gillman for a Saturday dinner, we are going to experience a weekend special event called Saturday Social BBQ, or SSBBQ. This event happens only on every Saturday after 4pm with different monthly themes made just for children. That sounds like a perfect deal for a family dining.
With the live band performing on the stage, the whole ambience and our moods liven up. We were brought to our dining table with the perfect view of the backyard where we can see all the children having fun. With the help of technology today, Timbre @ Gillman sets up an iPad self-ordering system on every table. The digital coloured menu is easy to navigate. Since the Saturday Social BBQ is only available on Saturdays, we have decided to order their barbecue specials – Glazed Bone in Pork Loin ($40 for 350gm) and Beer Bratwurst Sausage topped with Fried Egg ($22 for 200gm). We have also ordered their new entree, Prosciutto, Buffalo Mozzarella and Grilled Peach Salad ($15). For our drinks to freshen up ourselves, we ordered A Berry Delicious Mocktail ($13) and Honey Lemon Iced Tea ($18). Orders sent and now, we are going to have fun!
It’s Fun Time For The Children
While waiting for our food to be prepared and served, we headed outdoor at the backyard where most of the children activities are held. There is an air-filled bouncy castle, an air-filled pirate ship with slides and gun-firing games for the children to play. Kayden was very happy because he can finally jump as much as he love to. For the indoor children activities, there is body and face painting sessions and art and craft corners. Woah! No wonder all the children are happily entertaining themselves.
Dining At Timbre @ Gillman
Sitting at our table, it felt good to watch the chef grilling and flaming up our dinner. Watching the chef plating up the dinners makes my stomach growling non-stop. While waiting for our food to be served, we first enjoy our refreshing drinks. A Berry Delicious Mocktail is a sparkling soda drink mixed with fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and dash of lemon juice. My glass of Honey Lemon Iced Tea was a thirst quenching drink. Both of our drinks were good.
If your children love pasta, Spaghetti Ala Bolognaise ($10) is a tasty treat for them. There are also other two items on the Kids Menu, the Breaded Fish & Chips ($10) and Grilled Minute Steak ($10).
Here comes my healthy plate of entree which is prepared using Arugula, sweet cherry tomatoes, alfalfa sprouts and balsamic reduction dressing. My boy loves the slices of peach so much that he finished them all.
I am going to give two thumbs up for my plate of Glazed Bone in Pork Loin. In the past, I have encountered bad food experiences with grilled thick pork loin due to undercook meat in the centre. This one was perfect. The inside was juicy and the outside wasn’t overcooked. The amount of black pepper sauce spread across the pork was just right.
Like Glazed Bone in Pork Loin, the Beer Bratwurst Sausage topped with Fried Egg is also a new food item on the menu. Served on the plate were the corn and pomegranate slaw, pickled cucumber onion salad and black pepper sauce. The Beer Bratwurst Sausage was a little too saltish for me. Other than that, everything on the plate was good.
We want desserts! Here comes the new dessert item on the menu, Chocolate Sphere ($15). This is a simply chocolaty dessert made from chocolate mousse, hazelnut crème and cocoa biscuit.
Puff pastry stuffed with cold vanilla ice cream and drizzled with chocolate sauce, this is the Profiteroles ($16). Yummy!
For the past few years, many restaurants and cafes have become more family oriented. The interior layouts have become more spacious for strollers and more child-friendly when comes to safety. Besides preparing delicious food, these dining places need to come out with appealing children activities to engage them so that the parents could enjoy their meals peacefully. Timbre @ Gillman is a nice casual restaurant where family and friends can get together to enjoy a meal. Don’t worry about the children because there are staffs stationed at each activity corner to ensure safety. A great place to chill and relax.
