How to make money while seeing the world? Here are some tips to help you maintain an income as you travel from place to place.

If you live the life of a digital nomad — which is increasingly popular among those wanting to live a life beyond the typical 9–5 office job —you’ll need to find a source of income that agrees with your non-traditional way of living. Many people are looking for ways to make money while they explore the world, but finding one of these travel-friendly jobs is easier said than done. However, it’s not impossible if you have the right skills and know where to look.

In this article, we’ll look at some ways you can make money while exploring the world without needing to be tied down to one fixed location.

Online Trading

If you’re good with numbers and have a keen eye for detail, you could look at online trading. While this will require you to understand how the online and real-world markets work, this is something you can brush up on while traveling. There are many different options available, from CFDs and commodities to stocks and shares. Your trading style may be suited to one more than another, but you’ll discover this with time and patience.

If you want to trade successfully, ensure you have a good internet connection and a device that can handle the various platforms and tools you’ll be using, such as Tradingview. Aside from this, you should have relative freedom to trade when you want, although you will still be restricted by when the markets open, which may differ from your home country. You should know how time zones may change when traveling because it may impact when markets and trading options close.

Content Writing

If you find that you enjoy writing about a variety of different topics, you could look for work as a freelance content writer. You could work for an agency looking to outsource its retainer work while also working directly for a company that doesn’t have the talent in-house. If you set some time aside to look for opportunities and polish up your resume and writing portfolio, you should have luck finding somebody open to working with you. However, many will ask you for free trial content first — avoid doing this if possible, as you deserve to be paid for your time.

If you want to find work as a freelance writer, having experience working in this field is helpful. A university or college degree with an English or journalism major should work in your favor. However, in truth, the most crucial factor in landing this kind of work is to have a portfolio of pieces you’ve written to illustrate your writing talent. It can also be worth looking into company registration to give yourself more credibility as a small business, not an individual. People are more likely to trust you if you have a permanent business address, regardless of whether you’re there or not. There doesn’t need to be much involved in starting this venture, especially as you won’t always need internet access, which is helpful if you’re often on the move. Still, it is useful as you may not always be familiar with the topic, which could cause issues when submitting your work. Being organized is vital to doing this side hustle successfully.

Dropshipping

If you want to try something different from the usual side hustles you see people doing, you could look into dropshipping. This involves setting up an online store to sell items you don’t physically own. Instead, your online store serves as a gateway between the distributor or manufacturer and the customer, without them ever being aware of your lack of ownership. This may take some time to get right, but it’s possible to make a lot of money with minimal follow-up work if done correctly.

To start a successful dropshipping venture, you should aim to understand digital marketing well, as this will be key to driving traffic to your store and getting sales. If you want to be successful, it’s wise to brush up on the fundamentals of e-commerce marketing and how to drive traffic to a conversion point. Social media is always a good place to start, but you will likely need to run some digital ads if you want to hit the ground running.

Key Side Hustle Pointers

If you want to maintain a successful side hustle while traveling the world, you’ll need to find a work-life balance that works with your lifestyle, which will require a good amount of discipline. While this isn’t something you might want to do while you’re having a great time abroad, this is key if you want to fund further traveling.

Make sure you have access to a device that will allow you to do everything you need with ease, as this could quickly become a problem should you take in work requiring specific tools or software. Additionally, try to stay in places with good internet connectivity, which will allow you to maintain good levels of communication with your customers or clients. Considering all this when planning your travels should ensure you can easily run your side hustle and see the sights in whichever hemisphere you find yourself.

💎 Weekend adventure at Jewel Changi! We had lunch at Song Fa Bak Kut Teh. Of course, ended it all with some waterfall fun, the classic Jewel style.
🥐 Dropped by Moonchild Café at Jalan Besar for brunch and coffee after a late night catching up on GE2025 🗳️. Definitely needed that caffeine fix!

The café has a cosy, laid-back vibe with good coffee, waffles, and bakes — plus it’s dog-friendly, which is always a win. 🐶

🚌 It’s about a 15-minute walk from Bendemeer MRT, but if you’re coming from Tampines, just take Bus 23 — it stops right outside the café.

📍 If you’re looking for a chill spot in the Jalan Besar area with good vibes and brunch, this one’s worth checking out.
😌 TGIF! I’m taking a break from all the rally heat with some grilled goodness at Sinpopo.

🧈 The Damn Good Kaya & Salty Butter Sandwich really good, plus teh tarik, coffee and peanut mochi for that extra mood boost.

🗳️ Don’t forget to vote tomorrow ok?
