For the second time, LOEWE is pleased to announce a capsule collection in collaboration with Studio Ghibli: LOEWE x Spirited Away. Apart from being a masterpiece, Spirited Away feels particularly timely. Driven by a sense of perpetual invention and reinvention, it promotes fantasy as the highest value.
An ode to loyalty, friendship, and stubbornness in the face of adversity, Spirited Away (2001) tells the story of a 10-year-old girl, Chihiro, getting lost in a magical forest and entering a world ruled by gods, witches, and spirits. Directed by Hayao Miyazaki – an undisputed master of the fantastic, and an inventor with the ability to reach life-affirming lessons by simply entertaining with captivating stories – the fantasy world is a magnificent escape. It is a parallel reality in which everybody can learn something in the most heartfelt and fulfilling of ways.
Featuring all characters in the movie, the capsule collection sees young protagonist Chihiro, mysterious Haku, sorceress Yubaba, and then Kaonashi, Aogaeru, Otori-Sama, Boh and Fly-Bird, and the Susuwatari swarm all over on pieces of clothing, blankets, and scarves, bags, and small leather accessories.
The iconic Amazona, Puzzle, Hammock, and Flamenco are no exceptions. Figures are playfully rendered as jacquard, print, applique, and patch, as well as leather marquetry or embroidery. LOEWE artisans have brought the characters to life through the added focus of tactility and three-dimensional forms.
Craft is at the heart of LOEWE and Studio Ghibli, and LOEWE x Spirited Away tells the tale of uplifting dreaminess, progressive multiplicity, and kaleidoscopic dreaming as the way forward.
