IKEA Singapore proudly announces the completion of extensive refurbishments at its iconic Alexandra store, just in time for its 29th anniversary. Since opening in August 1995, IKEA Alexandra has welcomed over 80 million visitors, becoming a beloved destination in the neighborhood. With a S$20 million investment since 2021, the store’s revamp promises to elevate the shopping experience for all visitors.
A Fresh New Look and Enhanced Customer Experience
The refurbishment includes significant upgrades, starting with the carpark, which now offers more spaces for families, electric vehicles, and people with disabilities. Additionally, a new pickup point for private hire cars has been added. Inside, customers can explore a redesigned showroom with updated layouts and new room sets designed to inspire. At checkout, the aroma of freshly baked goods from the new in-store bakery will greet shoppers.
Other in-store features have also been revamped in response to customer feedback. The IKEA Swedish Restaurant has been refreshed with vibrant colors, new furniture, and a dedicated space for young families, complete with a microwave for baby food and child-friendly utensils. Upgraded washrooms now feature larger baby care areas in both male and female facilities, reflecting IKEA Singapore’s commitment to providing equal access for all parents. The store also boasts enhanced prayer rooms for Muslim customers and newly designed baby care rooms equipped with amenities such as nursing spaces, nappy-changing areas, and hot water facilities.
Accessibility and Inclusion at the Forefront
IKEA Singapore partnered with SG Enable, a leading agency for disability and inclusion, to ensure the refurbished store is welcoming to all. Feedback from focus groups and surveys with persons with disabilities informed the design improvements, which include a gentler slope for easier access from the bus stop, wider aisles, and a height-adjusted, wheelchair-accessible counter at the self-checkout area. A special room setting also showcases how accessibility can be seamlessly integrated into home design using IKEA furnishings.
