Brace yourself for an unforgettable experience as the Singapore Night Festival (SNF) 2024 lights up the Bras Basah.Bugis (BBB) precinct. This year, the National Heritage Board (NHB) and Lead Sponsor Samsung Singapore invite you to explore the fifteenth edition of SNF, which kicks off tonight with over 50 mesmerizing programs. From stunning projection mappings to interactive Night Lights installations, the festival promises to transport you back to your childhood under the theme “The Art of Play.” This theme pays homage to BBB’s historical roots as the birthplace of Singapore’s first schools, offering you a nostalgic journey through the area’s rich heritage.
Wonder World – The Machine of Nostalgia
Your adventure begins with the festival’s Highlight Act, Wonder World – The Machine of Nostalgia by Sam Lo “SKL0.” As you step into this whimsical reimagining of Singapore’s iconic amusement parks, you’ll encounter carnival rides hand-painted by SKL0, quirky game stalls, and intriguing performances. Here, play meets contemplation, urging you to reflect on how nostalgia shapes your sense of belonging and identity amidst life’s hustle.
Tickets for Wonder World can be pre-purchased via Klook or bought on-site, so don’t miss your chance to enter this magical realm.
Between Threads
For the first time, the Peranakan Museum facade will come alive with Between Threads, a projection mapping artwork and Night Lights installation co-created by Singaporean film director Clare Chong, Jennifer O’Connor, and Taufiq Hidayat. This interactive, multi-medium artwork responds to audience engagement, offering you a unique perspective on the intricate artistry and cultural diversity of Peranakan communities.
Delulu High
If you’re looking for more interactive fun, head over to Bugis Street Art Lane, a new festival location, and dive into Delulu High by Pop Glitterfreak Collective. This installation invites you to explore a reimagined school complex, complete with The Funnazium—a soft, feminine twist on the traditional gymnasium—alongside a Disco Bus and Affirmation Steps, offering a refreshing take on the typically mundane school stairwell.
National Design Centre Highlights
At the National Design Centre, immerse yourself in two captivating Night Lights installations. Opera in Motion: A Dynamic Tribute to Chinese Opera《剧里箱》 by local art collective Opera in Motion lets you pedal a tricycle to activate a mesmerizing light projection of an illustrated Chinese opera scene. Meanwhile, Scents of Being by Aesop enchants your senses with 11 of Aesop’s Eaux de Parfum, evoking childhood wonder and inviting introspection into the relationship between scent and self.
Festival Village @ CHIJMES
