Now in its 8th iteration, the National Heritage Board’s (NHB) popular Museum Roundtable Lunar New Year Hongbao Campaign returns with limited edition red packet designs based on the Tiger, the Chinese zodiac animal for 2022.
From 7 January to 4 February 2022, visitors will be able to collect a set of unique red packet designs at each of the 35 participating museums, heritage institutions, and galleries, while stocks last. Each set will contain eight pieces of red packets and is limited to one set per visitor.
Of the 35 participating museums, two are new Museum Roundtable (MR) members which joined in 2021 and are participating in the Hongbao Campaign for the first time – Geylang Serai Heritage Gallery and Kreta Ayer Heritage Gallery.
This year, NHB will also be producing a limited edition collector’s album available for sale for the first time. Each collector’s album will contain two full sets of 35 MR red packet designs for the Year of the Tiger (i.e. a total of 70 pieces of red packets), displayed in a customised album. The red packets in the collector’s album will be different from the red packets available for collection at participating MR members in that the former will feature a red background, while the latter will feature a pink background.
The idea of a collector’s album arose from feedback from museum visitors who had requested that NHB sell full sets of MR red packets, and to consider producing red packet albums for visitors to keep and display their MR red packets. The collector’s albums will be available for sale from 22 January 2022 at the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall, while stocks last, and are priced at $70 (nett) per album.
In addition, two online giveaways will be held on the ‘I Love Museums’ Facebook page where you can stand a chance to win a full set of the MR red packets. The first giveaway, running until 16 January, will require you to visit participating museums and take a photograph with the collected red packets at the participating museums. Share the photograph(s) in the comment section of the giveaway post, and leave a comment to share which exhibit/artefact you found interesting during your visit. 10 winners will be selected at random for the first giveaway, and each winner will receive a limited-edition collector’s album.
The second giveaway which will run from 24 to 28 January, will require you to leave a comment on the ‘I Love Museums’ Facebook page, sharing what you like best about the MR Lunar New Year Hongbao Campaign. There will be 35 winners to be selected at random, and each winner will receive a full set of MR red packets.
According to Mr. Alvin Tan, Deputy Chief Executive (Policy & Community), “Through this campaign, we hope to encourage more members of the public to visit participating museums, promote a traditional custom associated with the Lunar New Year, and bring festive cheer to Singaporeans.”
